About me
I am a senior reporter at the Financial Times, a role I have held since July 2021. I lead the FT's 'computational journalism' team: we trial new techniques to tell stories that would otherwise be beyond the reach of journalism.
In 2020-21, I was at Tortoise as a partner and editor. Prior to that, from 2014 to 2020, I was BBC Newsnight's public policy editor. Prior to joining the BBC, I worked at the Financial Times as a leader writer, education correspondent and comment editor.
I have won awards from the British Journalism Awards for feature-writing, from the Royal Television Society for Specialist Journalist of the Year, for News Coverage and for Scoop of the Year. I was nominated for a BAFTA, and have won awards from the Royal Statistical Society and the Harold Wincott Foundation for my reporting.
